Santa Monica, CA
Overview
Whether it be an out-of-town visitor with urgent care needs or a routine check-up, the physicians at this medical care office aim to make their patients feel comfortable and cared for. Engaged by UCLA to collaborate with Borsuk Architects, Fisher Design Company was asked to transform the tired interior of the blue Wilshire Blvd. building into a space with a modern and cool twist.
Challenges
With the limited budget, major funds were allocated for code compliant upgrades. Creating interesting and inexpensive lighting, materials, furnishing, and artwork was the second priority, but equally important.
Strategy
We first designated a budget for all parts of the project. Mandatory and elective design elements teamed with the financial impact were outlined, allowing the project team to prioritize the rank and allocate the budget. To meet the allocated constraints, we sourced cost-effective architectural materials, local and low cost furnishings, and earmarked paint for the walls.
Results
Patients experience a modernized interior that includes current handicap code compliance, an efficient floor plan circulation, bright illumination, energetic colors, an upbeat style, and bold abstract artwork.
